Office of Student Experience
The Office of Student Experience (OSE) is comprised of: Residential Experience, Student Engagement and Event Management, First Year Programs, Finances and Operations, and the Faculty in Residence.
The Residential Experience team oversees the experience of living on campus, aiding in community and student development, crisis intervention, residential programming, and support for day-to-day community needs. We have 5 Residential Life Coordinators and 24 Resident Associates living throughout Caltech's residential communities. Together, with the Residential Experience Team, our Faculty in Residence supports the holistic development of students by functioning as a bridge between Caltech's academic and residential efforts.
Student Engagement and Event Management provide engaging experiences outside the classroom, connecting members of the Caltech community through social, cultural, and intellectual programs. The team manages all Caltech student clubs and organizations and registered student events.
The Office of Student Experience supports students during their first year and throughout the transitions they experience in college. Our Director of Orientation Programs, Transitions and First Year Experiences will connect students to each other and to the Institute, and will ensure they get to know the resources that can support them throughout their first year at Caltech.
The Finance and Operations Team supports and aids in the financial health of Caltech's residential communities and student organizations, all by way of the Student Financial Hub (Hub). The Hub advises and educates students on Caltech's intricate financial and procurement systems and policies and helps students with funding activities, large purchases, student p-card management, reimbursements, and budgeting. This team also manages Hammetman Student Center.
OSE supports the academic, personal, and communal growth of all Caltech students by fostering safe, engaging, and inclusive environments that enhance learning and underscore personal growth.
This work is focused around our four main objectives, which are as follows:
- Welcome new students to the Institute
- Support students' learning and development through residential programming and resources
- Engage students in community through clubs, events, and leadership opportunities
- Coordinate administrative initiatives that support campus life
- Respond to individual and campus emergencies
Our office works closely with student leaders to provide robust extra- and co-curricular programming. Student volunteers are essential to the success and viability of our programs and we lend extensive expertise and assistance to programs initiated by our student groups to support their vision and leadership development.
